Digital thickness gauges based on the eddy current principle are used to measure coatings without destroying them. A thin wire is wound around the probe of the device, which generates an alternating magnetic field using the current passing through the coil. An alternating magnetic field is generated on the surface of the device probe by means of a current passing through a coil on which a thin wire is mounted. The eddy current method is mainly used for highly conductive surfaces made of non-ferrous metals, such as aluminum.
