An optimeter is a device for measuring linear dimensions (using a relative method), in which a lever-optical mechanism serves as the transducing element. The lever transmission of the optimeter is a swinging mirror in the mechanism, and the optical transducer is an autocollimating tube.
Vertical and horizontal optometers are designed to perform accurate linear measurements using the contact relative method.
Vertical optometers model IZV can be used to measure end lengths, outer diameters of gauges and other products, diameters of balls, wires, etc.
Horizontal optometers model IZG can measure both external and internal dimensions.
